A balloon is connected to a meteorological station by a cable of length 130 m. inclined at 60° to the horizontal. Find the height of the balloon from the ground. Assume that there is no slack in cable.
Let A be the position of the balloon.
In rt.△ABC,
sin 60° = AB/AC
AB = 130 sin 60°
AB = 130 × √3/2
= 130 × 1.73/2
= 112.18 m
Therefore the height of the balloon from the ground is 112.18 m
