Question 58

If the numerator of a fraction is increased by 300% and the denominator is increased by 500%, the resultant fraction is $$\frac{5}{12}$$. What was the original fraction ?

Let the original fraction be $$\frac{x}{y}$$. New fraction is 300% of numerator and 500% of denominator ie $$ \frac{3x}{5y}$$

But $$ \frac{3x}{5y} = \frac{5}{12}. So, \frac{x}{y}= \frac{25}{36}$$
