is caught?

lets assume ,

Police caught the thief d1 km later

Time Taken by Thief for d1 km = D/60 hr

Time Taken by Police = d1/80 hr

d1/60 - d1/80 = 1/2 ( 30 Mins = 1/2 hr)

taking lcm of 60 and 80

4d1 - 3d1= 120

=> d1 = 120 km

therefore, d1 = 120km
