$$ \frac{1}{3} $$ of the income of a person is spent over food, $$ \frac{1}{2} $$ towards loan. If the remaining amount is Rs. 2,000 calculate his income.

Solution

percentage spent on food=33.33% of income

percentage spent on loan=50% of income

percentage remaining=(100-83.33)%=16.67% of income

given, remaining amount=2000=16.67% of income=1/6th of income

∴income=2000x6=12,000
