Answers & Solutions:

1) Answer (A)

Let the sum = Rs. $100x$

Rate of interest for first 5 years = 10% and for next 3 years = 15%

=> Simple interest = $\frac{P\times R\times T}{100}$

=> $(\frac{100x\times 10\times5}{100})+(\frac{100x\times15\times3}{100})=47500$

=> $50x+45x=47500$

=> $x=\frac{47500}{95}=500$

$\therefore$ Sum = $100\times500=Rs.$ $50,000$

=> Ans – (A)

2) Answer (B)

Selling price = Rs. 1386

Loss % = 23%

=> Cost price = $\frac{1386}{(100-23)}\times100$

= $\frac{126}{7}\times100=Rs.$ $1800$

=> Ans – (B)

3) Answer (B)

Marked price of computer = Rs. 48,000 and discount = 13%

=> Selling price = $48,000-(\frac{13}{100}\times48,000)$

= $48000-6240=Rs.$ $41,760$

Final selling price = Rs. 39,672

=> Additional discount % = $\frac{(41760-39670)}{41760}\times100$

= $\frac{2090}{417.6}\approx5\%$

=> Ans – (B)

4) Answer (B)

I : $\sqrt{144}\times\sqrt{36}<\sqrt[3]{125}\times\sqrt{121}$

L.H.S. = $12\times6=72$

R.H.S. = $5\times11=55$

Thus, L.H.S. > R.H.S.

II : $\sqrt{324}+\sqrt{49}>\sqrt[3]{216}\times\sqrt{9}$

L.H.S. = $18+7=25$

R.H.S. = $6\times3=18$

Thus, L.H.S. > R.H.S., which is correct.

$\therefore$ Only II is correct.

5) Answer (C)

Let capacity of tank = L.C.M. (20,35) = 140 litres

Pipe X can fill the tank in 20 hours, => X’s efficiency = $\frac{140}{20}=7$ l/hr

Similarly, Y’s efficiency = $\frac{140}{35}=4$ l/hr

Pipes Y and X are alternatively opened, => Tank filled in 2 hours = $4+7=11$ litres

Multiplying both sides by 12, we get => Tank filled in $24$ hours = $132$ litres

Now, its Y’s turn to be opened, it will 4 more litres, => In $25$ hours = $136$ litres

Thus, the remaining tank is filled by pipe X in $\frac{4}{7}$ hours

=> Total time = $25+\frac{4}{7}=\frac{179}{7}$ hours

=> Ans – (C)

6) Answer (B)

Speed of train = 54 km/hr = $(54\times\frac{5}{18})=15$ m/s

Let time taken to cover 450 m = $t$ seconds

Using, time = distance/speed

=> $t=\frac{450}{15}=30$ seconds

=> Ans – (B)

7) Answer (C)

Marks when arranged in ascending order are : $45<50<60<65<75,75<80$

Corresponding division is : $F,G,D,B,A,E,C$

Thus, G division scored second lowest marks.

=> Ans – (C)

8) Answer (A)

Average marks scored by Division D = 60

Average marks scored by Division A = 75

=> Required ratio = $\frac{60}{75}=4:5$

=> Ans – (A)

9) Answer (D)

Marks scored by Division F = 45

Marks scored by Division C = 80

=> Required % = $\frac{(80-45)}{80}\times100$

= $\frac{35\times5}{4}=43.75\%$

=> Ans – (D)

10) Answer (C)

Current average marks of all students of Division A = 75

If all students of Division A lost 5 marks each, then new average marks = 75-5 = 70

=> Required % decrease = $\frac{(75-70)}{75}\times100$

= $\frac{100}{15}=6.67\%$

=> Ans – (C)
