$\therefore$ 8% of the number = $\frac{8}{100} * 100x = 8 * x$

= 8 * 44 = 352

=> $x=-93,92$

$\because$ The numbers are natural, thus $x \neq -93$

$\therefore$ Smaller number = $x=92$
