Question 99

The distance between the two towns A and B is 410 km.A bus starts from A to B at a speed of 70 km per hour. After half an hour a car starts from B to A at a speed of 80 km per hour. The meeting point of both the car and the bus from A is

Solution

In half hour, the bus travels 35km.

Thus, after half hour, the distance between bus and car=CB=410-35=375 km

C=position of bus after half hour, M=meeting point of bus and Car
Since the distance covered by them is proportional to their respective speeds,

CM/MB=70/80......(1)
also, CM + MB=375......(2)

On solving (1) and (2) we get CM=175km and MB=200km

Thus, the distance from A to M is 175+35=210km
