Question 99

A man starts walking at 6.30a.m. and wants to cover a distance of 30km. His initial speed is 6 kmph and after covering three-fifth distance, he reduces his speed by 2 kmph. At what time will he complete his walk?

Solution

Distance covered at 6 kmph = $$30\times\ \frac{3}{5}=18$$ km

Time taken to cover 18 km = $$\frac{18}{6}=3\ hours$$

Distance covered at 4 kmph = 30 - 18 = 12 km

Time taken to cover 12 km = $$\frac{12}{4}=3\ hours$$

Required time = 3 + 3 = 6 hours

He will complete his journey at 12.30 PM.
