The LCM of two numbers which are in the ratio 2 : 3 is 48. What is their sum?

Solution

let the numbers be 2x and 3x

LCM( 2x,3x) = 6x

given LCM = 48

6x = 48

$$ x = \frac{48}{6} $$

2x = 16

3x = 24

sum of the numbers = 16 + 24 = 40
