Question 89

If the side of a square is increased by 20%, its area is increased by k%. Find the value of 'k'.

Assume that the side of the square is x.

Therefore, if side of a square is increased by 20%, then new side length would be 1.2x

Now the area:

For the Old square it would be $$(x)\times(x)$$

For the New square: would be $$(1.2x)\times(1.2x)$$

$$1.44x^2-x^2=44$$

Thus, the area of the square will be increased by 44
