At what price should Shyam sell a pair of shoes which costs him Rs. 1200 so as to gain 12% after allowing a discount of 16%.

given

cp = 1200

to gain 12% as profit the selling price must be

112% of 1200 = 1344

now, let marked price be x as to receive a overall profit of 12% after 16% discount

after discount (100-16)% = 88%

we know that discount on marked price gives selling price whereas profit or loss is calculated on cost price

so now 88% of x = 1344

therefore x = 1527

therefore price at which it is sold is Rs 1527
