Two-thirds of children are in the age group 1-12 years. Of this, if three-fourths are in the age group of 1-8 years find the fraction of children in the age group of 9-12 years?
Solution
1 to 12 years =Â $$\frac{2}{3}$$
1 to 8 years =Â $$\frac{3}{4}\times\frac{2}{3}=\frac{1}{2}$$
9 to 12 years =Â $$\frac{2}{3}-\frac{1}{2}=\frac{1}{6}$$
