Question 70

A well of diameter 3m and depth 14 m is dug. The earth, taken out ofit, has been evenly
spread all around it in the shape ofa circular ring of width 4m to form an embankment. Find the height of embankment?

Solution

The correct option is B.

Let the height of the embankment be $$h$$

Vol. of soil dug from well = Vol. of earth used to form embankment

$$\Rightarrow$$ $$\pi\times$$ ($$\frac{3}{2}$$)$$^{2}$$ $$\times14$$ = $$\pi$$[($$\frac{11}{2}$$)$$^{2}$$-($$\frac{3}{2}$$)$$^{2}]$$ $$\times$$h

$$\Rightarrow$$ h = $$\frac{9}{8}$$ m
