Question 65

A person driving at the speed of 40 kmhr reaches office 1 minute early while he reaches 3 minutes late if driving at 36 km/hr. Whatis the distance (in km) that she is covering?

Solution

Since we have given that

let the distance traveled be 'x' km

If he travel at the speed of 36km/hr, then he reaches office 3 minutes late

$$\frac{x}{36}-\frac{3}{60}$$

Total time taken is given by

If he travel at the speed of 40 km/hr, then he reaches office 1 minutes early.

$$\frac{x}{40}+\frac{1}{60}$$

Total time taken is given by

Since in both the case, he covers the same distance.

So, it becomes,

$$\frac{x}{36}-\frac{3}{60}$$=$$\frac{x}{40}+\frac{1}{60}$$

$$\frac{10x-18}{360}=\frac{3x+2}{120}$$

$${10x-18}=3\times{3x+2}$$

$${10x-18}=9x+6$$

$$x=24$$
