If X scored an average of 50 marks in History, Language and Science, how much did he score in Science?
Statements:
1. His average score in History and Language is 25.
2. He got 30 marks in Language.

Solution

Average marks of (history+science+language)=50

Total marks in (history+science+language)= $$3\times\ 50=150$$

Average marks of (history+language)= 25

Total marks in (history+language) =$$2\times25=50$$

we subtract eq-1 nd eq-2

science=150 - 50 = 100.

only 1 alone is sufficient and statement 2 alone is not sufficient.
