What digit will come in the place of 'a' in the number 1a5a01, if it is divisible by 11?

Solution

According to the divisibility rule of 11, we must subtract and then add the digits in an alternating pattern from left to right. If the answer is 0 or 11, then the result is divisible by 11.

we apply the rule

$$1-a+5-a+0-1 =5 -2a $$

5 -2a must be divisible by 2 

so we have to check the option

5 =a 

5-2a =-5

5-2a =-7

5-2a =-3

5-2a =-11 which is divisible by 11
