Question 49

13 years ago Ram was twice as old as Sunny. Three years from now Sunny’s age will be $$\frac{3}{5}$$ of Ram’s age. What is Ram’s current age?

Solution

Let Ram's present age be x and Sunny's present age be y.

According to the question,

Thirteen years ago, x $$-$$ 13 = 2(y $$-$$ 13)

= x $$-$$ 2y $$+$$ 13 = 0      (Eq. 1)

Three years later, $$\frac{3}{5}\times $$(x + 3) = (y + 3)

= 3x $$-$$ 5y $$-$$ 6 = 0     (Eq. 2)

Solving Eq 1 and Eq 2 we get,

x=77 years and y=45 years

Option D is the answer.
