The marked prices of big and small note books are Rs. 10 and Rs. 15 respectively. A student bought 5 dozen small and 10 dozen big note books at a total discount of 5%. Find the total discount amount.

Solution

Cost of per small notebook=15

Cost. big notebook=10

No. of small notebooks bought = 5 dozens = $$12\times 5=60$$

No. of big notebooks bought = 10 dozens=$$12\times 10=120$$

$$Total cost of small notebooks=60\times15 = 900$$

$$Total cost of big notebooks=120\times10 = 1200$$

Total cost of both kind of notebooks = 2100

Discount=5%

= 2100 $$\times \frac {5}{100}$$

= 105
