respectively, find out the difference between the ages of the eldest and the youngest person.

Solution

The average age of 4 persons is 42 years.

Total age =$$ 4 \times 42 = 168 $$

ages are in the ratio of 1 : 3 : 4 : 6 respectively

total age= 14x = 168

x = 12

age of the eldest person = $$ 12 \times 6 = 72 $$

age of the youngest person = $$ 12 \times 1 = 12 $$

difference between the ages = 72-12 = 60
