here distance covered is same

therefore $$ average speed = \frac{2 x y}{x + y} $$

x = 5 km/hr

y = 3 km/hr

$$ average speed = \frac{ 2 \times 5 \times 3}{5 + 3} = 3.75 km/hr $$
