Question 27

Two vessels of equal volume contain milk and water in the ratio 1:3 and 2:1. If they are mixed together, what is the new ratio?

Solution

ratios of milk and water are 1:3 and 2:1

1+3=4 and 2+1=3 the LCM of 4 and 3 is 12

Units of milk  $$1\times 3 =3$$ units of milk

$$2\times 4 =8$$

units of water $$3\times 3 =9$$

units of water  $$1\times 4 =4$$

  units of milk 8+ 3=11

units of water and 9+4=13

The ratio is 11:13
