One year ago the ratio of the ages of two sister was 2 : 3. The sum of their present ages is 12. What are their ages now?

Solution

Let say , one year ago their age was 2k & 3k.

So, according to question:

$$\left(2k+1\right)+\left(3k+1\right)=12.$$

or,$$5k=10.$$

or,k=2.

So, one year ago their ages was 4 and 6.

But their ages now 5 and 7.

A is correct choice.
