Assuming that the charge of an electron is $$1.6 \times 10^{-19}$$ C, the number of electrons passing through a section of wire per second when the wire carries a current of 1 A is:

Solution

So according to the definition, the formula for the current is:

$$I = \frac{Q}{t}$$

I = 1 A and t = 1 sec

Therefore,

$$Q = I\times{t}$$

$$Q = 1\times{1}$$

Q =  1 C

One electon consists of a charge of $$1.6 \times 10^{-19}$$ C. Then the number of electrons passing would be:

$$Q = n\times(e)$$

$$n = \frac{Q}{e}$$

$$n = \frac{1}{1.6 \times 10^{-19}}= 6.25\times10^{18}$$ electrons
