Sum and difference of the ages of two kids are 9 and 1 respectively. How long ago were theirages in the ratio 3 :2?

Solution

Let age of first kid = x

Let age of second kid =y

Thus x+ y =9 …… (1)

and x-y =1 …… (2)

By adding two equations , we get

2x = 10

x =5

y= 9-5

Thus y =4

2 year ago their age were in ratio 3:2

It will never become 3:2 in future
