Answers & Solutions:
1) Answer (B)
Cakes baked by Akka in 1 hour = $\frac{100}{20} = 5$
Cakes baked by Akka and Tai together in 1 hour = $\frac{75}{10} = 7.5$
=> Cakes baked by Tai in 1 hour = 7.5 – 5 = 2.5
$\therefore$ Cakes baked by Tai in 20 hours = 20 $\times$ 2.5 = 50
=> Ans – (B)
2) Answer (D)
Let total work to be done = 60 units
Sampat can complete a job alone in 60 days
=> Sampat’s efficiency = $\frac{60}{60} = 1$ unit/day
Also, Mandeep works 3 times as fast as Sampat
=> Mandeep’s efficiency = $3 \times 1=3$ units/day
(Sampat+Mandeep)’s 1 day’s work together = 1 + 3 = 4 units/day
$\therefore$ Time taken by them to finish the job together = $\frac{60}{4} = 15$ days
=> Ans – (D)
3) Answer (C)
Ratio of times taken by Akhilesh and Bansi = 1 : 2
The time difference is (2 – 1) 1 day while Bansi take 2 days and Akhilesh takes 1 day.
If difference of time is 1 day, Bansi takes 2 days.
If difference of time is 39 days, Bansi takes = $\frac{2}{1} \times 39 = 78$ days
So, Akhilesh takes 39 days
Akhilesh’s 1 day’s work = $\frac{1}{39}$
Bansi’s 1 day’s work = $\frac{1}{78}$
(Akhilesh + Bansi)’s 1 day’s work together = $\frac{1}{39} + \frac{1}{78} = \frac{3}{78} = \frac{1}{26}$
$\therefore$ Akhilesh and Bansi together can do the work in = 26 days
=> Ans – (C)
4) Answer (B)
Let total work to be done = 12 units
P can complete the work alone in 12 days
=> P’s efficiency = $\frac{12}{12} = 1$ unit/day
Q can complete the work alone in 12 days
=> Q’s efficiency = $\frac{12}{12} = 1$ unit/day
(P + Q)’s 1 day’s work = 1 + 1 = 2 units/day
=> 50% of the work = $\frac{50}{100} \times 12 = 6$ units
$\therefore$ Time taken by them together to complete 50% of the work = $\frac{6}{2} = 3$ days
=> Ans – (B)
5) Answer (C)
Let total work to be done = 60 units
A’s efficiency = $\frac{60}{15} = 4$ units/day
B’s efficiency = $\frac{60}{20} = 3$ units/day
(A + B)’s 1 day’s work together = 4 + 3 = 7 units/day
Now, work done by them together in 5 days = $5 \times 7 = 35$ units
=> Work left = 60 – 35 = 25 units
$\therefore$ Fraction of work that is left = $\frac{25}{60} = \frac{5}{12}$
=> Ans – (C)
6) Answer (C)
Let total work to be done = 42 units
Manoj’s efficiency = $\frac{42}{42} = 1$ unit/hr
Jayashree is 100% more efficient, => Jayashree’s efficiency = $1 + \frac{100}{100} \times 1 = 2$ units/hr
(Manoj + Jayashree)’s 1 day’s work together = 1 + 2 = 3 units/hr
$\therefore$ Time taken by Manoj and Jayashree together to finish the work = $\frac{42}{3} = 14$ hours
=> Ans – (C)
7) Answer (C)
Let total work to be done = 80 units
Mahmood’s efficiency = $\frac{80}{40} = 2$ units/hr
Janaki is 50% more efficient than Mahmood, => Janaki’s efficiency = $\frac{150}{100} \times 2 = 3$ units/hr
=> Mahmood and Janaki 1 day’s work = 2 + 3 = 5 units/hr
$\therefore$ Time taken by them to finish the work together = $\frac{80}{5} = 16$ hours
=> Ans – (C)
8) Answer (B)
Cakes baked by Munni in 1 hour = $\frac{70}{7} = 10$
Cakes baked by Munni and Guddi together in 1 hour = $\frac{90}{6} = 15$
=> Cakes baked by Guddi in 1 hour = 15 – 10 = 5
$\therefore$ Cakes baked by Guddi in 10 hours = 10 $\times$ 5 = 50
=> Ans – (B)
9) Answer (D)
Let total work to be done = 90 units
Meghnad’s efficiency = $\frac{90}{45} = 2$ units/hr
Jayshri is 50% more efficient than Meghnad, => Jayshri’s efficiency = $\frac{150}{100} \times 2 = 3$ units/hr
=> Meghnad and Jayshri 1 day’s work = 2 + 3 = 5 units/hr
$\therefore$ Time taken by them to finish the work together = $\frac{90}{5} = 18$ hours
10) Answer (A)
Let total work to be done = 30 units
Jaikishen’s efficiency = $\frac{30}{15} = 2$ units/hr
Jhanvi is 50% more efficient, => Jhanvi’s efficiency = $\frac{150}{100} \times 2 = 3$ units/hr
Jaikishen and Jhanvi 1 hour’s work = 2 + 3 = 5 units/hr
=> Time taken by them to finish the work together = $\frac{30}{5} = 6$ hours
