RBI assistant 2016 question paper PDF analysis- prelims exam:
The pattern of the exam was similar to that of IBPS Clerk prelims exam. There were 100 questions spread across 3 sections. The English language section had 30 questions, reasoning ability section had 35 questions and numerical ability section had another 35 questions.

Each question carried 1 mark. The penalty for wrong answers were 0.25 marks per question.
RBI Assistant 2016 Question paper
English language section:
RC had 8 questions. Apart from RC, there were questions on Cloze test, para jumbles and error spotting. There were 7 questions on cloze test and 5 questions on para jumbles. 10 questions were from spotting the error.
The RC and cloze test passages were easy to read. Therefore, most aspirants felt this section to be easy.
Reasoning Ability:
Test takers felt this section to be average in toughness. There were 3 puzzles – one on the linear arrangement, 1 on the circular arrangement and 1 regular puzzle.
Apart from the puzzles, five questions were from syllogism, five questions were from inequalities, and another 5 questions were from series.
Single questions like directions, blood relations made up the remaining 5 questions.

Numerical ability:
There were 5 questions based on number series. There was only 1 DI set carrying 5 questions. Also, there were 10 questions on approximation. 15 word problems from various topics such as time and work, TSD, partnership.

RBI assistant 2016 question paper PDF analysis- mains exam:
Mains exam is the most important step in the entire process. RBI conducted the mains exam in January. The exam had five sections – English language, Reasoning ability, Numerical Ability, GA and Computer awareness. There were 200 questions in total and the total time limit of the exam was 2 hours. Also, the toughness of the exam was along the lines of IBPS Clerk mains exam.
The English language:
There were two RC questions. Most aspirants termed the passages to be tough to read. There were 2-3 questions on para jumbles. Also, there were five Para completion questions. The rest were from topics such as fillers, spotting errors and sentence correction.
The overall toughness of the section was high. Unlike the prelims exam, the passages were not on stories.

Reasoning Ability section:
Most aspirants considered this section to be moderately tough.
There were 3 puzzles sets – seating arrangements, block-based puzzle and date-month based puzzle. Apart from the puzzles, there were 5 questions each from inequalities, syllogism and blood relations. The rest were of the single question type.
Numerical ability section:
There were 5 questions from number series, 5 from quadratic equations and 5 from data sufficiency. The section also had 2 DI sets – one based on tables and another on the pie chart. Also, the section had around 10 word problems from various topics.
General awareness section:
Aspirants felt the questions to be tough. Also, most of the questions were from current affairs and banking awareness.
