Highest Mountain Peaks:

World:

1.Mount Everest situated between the border of Nepal & Autonomous region of Tibet with a height of 8848m above sealevel is the highest mountain peak in the world.

India:

1.K2 , also known as the Mount Godwin – Austen situated in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir with a height of 8611m above the sea level is the highest mountain in India & 2nd highest in the World.

2.Kanchenjunga with an elevation of 8586m located between Nepal & Sikkim is the 2nd highest mountain peak in India & 3rd highest in the world.

3.Anamudi in Kerala is the highest peak in South India . It is a part of the Western Ghats with an elevation of 2695m above sea level.

World:

1.Nile river of North-east Africa is the longest river in the world with a length of 6650Km.

2.Amazon river of South America is the 2nd longest with a length of 6400Km & largest river by water flow in the world.

3.Yangtze river of China is the 3rd longest river of the World & 1st longest in Asia with a length of 6300Km.

1.Ganges is the longest river in India with a length of 2525Km .Though Brahmaputra & Indus are longer than the river Ganges the area drained by the them in India is lesser than that of Ganges.Ganges originates from the Gangotri glacier of Uttarakhand.

2.Godavari also known as the Dakshin Ganga is the 2nd longest river of India & 1st longest in South India with a length of 1465Km originating from Triambakeshwar, Nasik , Maharashtra.

5.Lake Baikal in the Southern Russia is the deepest lake in the world & the largest fresh water lake in terms of volume .It has a depth of 5,387 feet.

6.Lake Vostok in Antarctica is the largest sub-glacial lake in the world

India:

1.Chilika lake is the largest lake of India with an area of 1165Sq.km. It is a brackish water lagoon located in Odisha.

2.Wular lake in Jammu & Kashmir is the largest fresh water lake of India measuring approximately 260Sq.km.

3.Pulicat lake situated in Andhra Pradesh is the 2nd largest brackish water lagoon of India.

4.Vembanad lake in Kerala is the longest lake of India with a length of 96.5Km.

5.Loktak lake in Manipur is the largest fresh water lake in North-east India.

6.Gobindh Ballabh Pant Sagar, in Uttar Pradesh is the largest man-made lake.

7.Sambhar lake is the largest inland salt water lake with an area of 200Sq.km.

1.Tehri dam on the Bhagirathi river in Uttarakhand is the largest in India with a height of 261m & length of 575m.

2.Bhakranangal dam across Sutlej river in Himachal Pradesh with a height of of 226m & length of 520m is the 2nd largest dam in India.

3.Nagarjunasagar dam, in Telangana , built across Krishna river with a height of 124m is the largest dam in South India.

1.Angel Falls in Venezula at a height of 3230ft is the highest waterfalls in the world.

2.Tugelo Falls in South Africa at a height of 3110ft is the 2nd highest waterfalls in the world.

3.Huanguoshu Waterfalls, located in Guizhou province, China is the highest waterfalls in Asia.

India:

1.Kunchikal falls, in the Shimoga district of Karnataka falls from a height of 1493ft.It is the highest waterfalls in India.

2.Barehpani falls in Odisha falls from a height of 1309ft is the 2nd highest waterfalls in the India. It is situated in Simplipal National Park, Mayurbhung district of Odisha.
