Syllogism questions and answers for IBPS PO:
Question 1:
Which of the conclusions is definitely true in the light of the given facts:
No kite is a flight.
Some flights are planes.
All planes are copters.
Conclusion:
(i) Some flights are copters
(ii) No kite is a copter.
From the diagrams, it is evident that some flights are definitely copters. Hence, conclusion (I) is correct. We cannot say the same about the conclusion (ii). It may or may not be true. Hence, only conclusion (I) is true.
Question 2:
Which of the conclusions can be true in the light of the given facts:
Some flowers are fruits.
All fruits are vegetables.
No vegetable is a legume.
Conclusions:
(i) Some legumes can be fruits.
(ii) Some legumes can be flowers.
It is important to note that the question asks for facts that can be true. The question is not about questions that are definitely true. Hence, you have to entertain the possibilities too.
From the diagrams, it is evident that conclusion (I) can never be a possibility. Since fruits are a subset of vegetables and no vegetable is a fruit, we can say with conviction that no legume is a fruit. Some legumes can be flowers.
Hence, only conclusion (ii) is true.
Question 3:
Which of the conclusions are true in the light of the given facts:
Some trusses are structures.
Some trusses are frames.
No frame is a structure.
Conclusions:
All frames being trusses is a possibility
All trusses being structures is a possibility
The diagram given above illustrates the statements given. Conclusion (I) is true. Conclusion (ii) cannot be true as frames and structures are disjoint sets, and at least one truss must be a frame. Hence, only conclusion (I) is true.
Aspirants must read the question carefully as they can look pretentiously easy. Look for catches in the question.

Question 4:
Which of the conclusions are true in the light of the given facts:
All axes are scissors.
Some scissors are blades.
Some blades are sickles.
No sickle is an axe.
Conclusions:
(i) Some sickles can be scissors.
(ii) All sickles are blades.
Again, read the conclusions properly to find out whether they talk about possibilities or statements that are definitely true.
Conclusion (I) talks about a possibility whereas conclusion (ii) discusses a statement being definitely true.
From the diagrams, it is clear that conclusion (I) is true. Conclusion (ii) may or may not be true. Hence, only conclusion (I) is true.

This is an unconventional question. These type of questions have been making their appearance in the recent exams.Question 5:
If the following conclusions are definitely true, which of the following can be the data required.
(i) Some cities are states.
(ii) All states are countries.
A)All cities are countries.
Some states are cities.
Some countries are not states.
B) All states are cities
Some cities are not states.
All cities are countries.
C) No country is a city
Some countries are states.
No city is a state.
D) All countries are cities.
Some states are cities.
No country is a state.
The question asks for statements that are definitely true. Hence, from the diagrams, it is evident that only from option B, we can infer the conclusions given. Hence option B is the right answer.
Never let what you know of a topic interfere with the statement given. Also, avoid assuming data. We hope that this blog on syllogism questions and answers for IBPS PO would have helped you gain some insights about the topic.
