Vacancies for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ Grade ‘D’ are in various Ministries/Departments/Organizations of Central Government including their attached and subordinate offices.
Age Limit:
Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 yrs as on 01/01/2019
Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 18 to 27 yrs as on 01/01/2019
Candidates appearing for the Exam must have passed 12th standard or equivalent exam from a recognized Board or University.
SSC Stenographer exam will be conducted in two different levels.
Level 1: Computer Based Test.
Level 2: Skill Test.
SSC Stenographer Previous Papers
SSC Stenographer Computer Based Test Selection Criteria:
Computer Based Test is an Objective Type Online Exam for 2 hrs. The questions will be in English and Hindi except last section which is English Comprehension Passage.
There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer.
Candidates qualifying the Computer Based Test with the Cut-Off (as will be released by the SSC) will be called for Skill Based Test.
Candidates appearing for the Skill Test will be given Dictation for 10 mins in English/Hindi at 100 words per minute for Grade ‘C’ and 80 words per minute for Grade ‘D’.
Skill Test is of Qualifying in nature.
- Candidates whose applications are found to be valid will be called for Computer Based Test.Candidates can download their Admit cards from official website of concerned Regional/Sub-Regional Office of the Commission.
- In the Application Form candidates will have to mention the post for which they are applying Stenographer Grade ‘C’ or Grade ‘D’ or both.
- Based on the marks scored in Online Test, candidates will be shortlisted category-wise to appear in Skill Test for the post they have applied.

SSC Stenographer Skill Test Selection Criteria:
- Selection Commission will fix category wise qualifying for Skill Test for each post.Candidates qualifying the Skill Test will be called for final selection on the basis of their merit in Computer Based Test.
SSC Stenographer Final Selection Procedure:
- Final Allocation of Ministries/Departments will be done based on performance of candidates in Computer Based Test and their preference of post.
- Final allotment of posts will be done by the Commission on the basis of Merit cum Preferences of posts/Department given by the candidates. And once the post is allotted no changes will be made for the post by the commission.
- Candidates appointed are liable to serve anywhere in India. All these posts carry All India Service Liability.
SSC Stenographer Document Verification:
- All the candidates qualified are required to come for Document Verification.Candidates failing to appear for Document Verification will not be considered for final selection.
- Candidates will have to submit original copies of Documents like Matriculation Certificate, Educational Qualification, Caste certificate, Relevant document if any relaxation is taken.
