In following questions the sentences have been given in Active/Passive voice. From the given alternatives, choose the one which best expresses the given sentence in Passive/Active voice.

Question 1: It is your duty to make tea at eleven O’ clock.

a) You are asked to make tea at eleven O’clock

b) Your are required to make tea at eleven O’clock

c) You are ordered to make tea at eleven O’clock

d) Tea is supposed to be made by you at eleven O’clock

1) Answer (D)

Solution:

If someone has a duty then he is supposed to do his duty. Option D is the correct answer.

Question 2: They first sun-dried the garbage for one to three days to bring down the moisture level.

a) The moisture level was brought down by sun-drying the garbage for one to three days

b) One to three days of sun-drying brought down the moisture level of the garbage

c) The moisture level of the garbage came down when it was sun-dried for one to three days

d) The garbage was first sun-dried for one to three days to bring down the moisture level

Solution:

The subject and the object should be interchanged. Also, the doer of the action can be omitted in passive voice.
‘The garbage’ is the object in the given sentence and hence, the ‘They first sun-dried the garbage’ will be changed to ‘The garbage was first sun-dried’. The other 2 parts of the sentence ‘for one to three days’ and ‘to bring down the moisture level’ do not require any change. Therefore, the passive voice of the given sentence is ‘The garbage was first sun-dried for one to three days to bring down the moisture level’ and hence, option D is the right answer.

We have to changed it into passive voice.

Active voice- Subject +verb+object +complement.

Passive voice- object + auxiliary verb+V3+by+Subject+complement.

Solution:

Given sentence is in active voice(compounded using ‘and ‘) and change it into passive voice.

It is in the form of ‘ sub1 + modal auxiliary +not+ V1+ obj’ and ‘ sub2 + V2 + obj’
