Revised Cut off based on the 2018 exam on  Aug 16th, 2018:

RBI conducted the phase 1 exam for the recruitment of grade B officers on August 16. The total number of vacancies this time is 166. Out of these 166 posts, RBI will fill 127 vacancies through direct recruitment. The number of vacancies has dropped by 18 posts as compared to 2017. Each question carries 1 mark and the penalty for providing an incorrect answer is 0.25 marks. The phase 1 exam is of qualifying nature. RBI will not consider the marks obtained in the phase 1 exam while drawing the final merit list.

RBI Grade-B phase-1 2016 Cut off:

In 2016, the exam was a bit on the easier side as compared to 2017. Therefore, the cut offs were on the higher side.

There has been a slight decrease in the number of vacancies available this year as compared to the previous year. However, most aspirants felt that the exam was a bit on the easier side as compared to last year. Therefore, we expect a significant increase in the overall cut offs.

  • A score over 25 marks in the general knowledge/awareness section and above 20 marks in the reasoning section can be considered safe.
  • The sectional cut off for the other 2 sections (English, Quantitative Aptitude) is unlikely to go beyond 10 marks.

RBI grade B phase 2 cut off:

Let us take a look at the previous year cut offs before moving on to the expected cut off. The marks obtained in the phase 2 exam will have a huge say in the selection of the candidate. Out of the total 350 marks, phase 2 exam accounts for 300 marks and the interview accounts for 50 marks.

The phase 2 exam consists of 3 papers.
1. Economic and Social issues (100 marks, objective paper)
2. English (100 marks, descriptive paper)
3. Finance and management (100 marks, objective paper)

RBI will conduct all the papers in separate shifts. The time limit for each paper is one and a half hours.
RBI uses the cumulative score of the candidate in the 3 papers while shortlisting aspirants for the interview.

As we can see, there has been a huge variation in the cut off in the past 2 years. If the exam remains as tough as last year, we can expect the cut off for interviews to increase by 5 to 10 marks.

RBI interviews the candidates shortlisted after the phase 2 exam. Interview carries a weightage of 50 marks. Therefore, candidates should try to score as high as possible in the phase 2 exam to be safe.
