RBI assistant prelims cut off 2017 (Released):
Let us begin by analysing the pattern of the prelims exam. The prelims exam is similar to IBPS PO and clerk prelims exam. There are 3 sections in total.
The English language section contains 30 questions. Each question carries 1 mark.
Reasoning ability section contains 35 questions. Numerical ability section contains 35 questions. Aspirants can switch from one section to another while taking the exam.
The time limit for the exam is one hour. There are no sectional time limits.
The topics tested are also similar to other banking exams. English language section consists of RC, cloze test, para jumbles and fill ups. In reasoning section, puzzles form the major part. Other questions in this section will be of the individual type. In numerical ability section, the topics tested are number series, approximation, DI, and word problems.
RBI uses prelims exam to just screen the candidates. The scores of the aspirants in the prelims exam has no bearing on the final selection. Aspirants have to clear both the overall and sectional cut offs to be considered for further processes.
After the prelims exam, RBI conducts mains exam and language proficiency test. Only aspirants having fluency in the regional language can apply to a particular subdivision.
RBI prepares the final merit list using the marks in mains exam and LPT.

If the exam retains the difficulty level, one can expect the cut-offs to increase by 4-5 marks. Mains exam contains GK and computer awareness sections in addition to other sections. Therefore, aspirants must start preparing for those sections side by side.
As the time available is limited, aspirants must judiciously use the time left. Avoid solving irrelevant topics. Historically, the cut off is usually high for this exam due to less number of vacancies. Therefore, aspirants must have this in mind while preparing.
