List of Important Awards

Bharat Ratna

    • The Bharat Ratna is India’s highest civilian honour. The honour was initially intended to recognise great arts, literature, science, and public service achievements.
    • The government amended the criteria to encompass “any sphere of human endeavour.” In any particular year, the number of yearly prizes is limited to a maximum of three.
    • The bronze-toned prize is shaped like a Peepal leaf. The award features a Sun emblem at the centre, with the words “Bharat Ratna” etched below it in Devanagari script. The State Emblem and Motto are printed on the reverse side.
    • C. Rajagopalchari was the first awarded as Bharat Ratna

    • The Government of India will present the award. They were raised in recognition of outstanding public service and significant accomplishments in the fields of art, literature, and science. In 1954, it was started. In the year 2013, sports were also included in this award category by the government.

Padma Awards

  • The Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri awards are given for outstanding and distinguished service in any sector, including that of government employees. The Padma Vibhushan is India’s second-highest civilian honour.
  • For outstanding contributions to any field, including government service. Other notable civilian awards include the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shree.

Padma Vibhushan

  • The Padma Vibushan is India’s second-highest civilian honour. This award or recognition is bestowed upon individuals who have excelled in the arts, literature, science, and public service fields.
  • This bronze-toned trophy features a circular shape with a geometric pattern placed on it. A lotus blossom is etched in the circle’s centre. In Devnagri Script, the words “Padma” and “Vibushan” are engraved above and below the lotus flower. The State Emblem and Motto are printed on the reverse side.

Padma Bhushan

  • This is India’s third-highest civilian honour. It is given to persons who have made outstanding contributions in any subject, including service by government employees such as doctors and scientists, but not by those who work for public-sector companies. The design of this award is identical to that of the Padma Vibhushan. Gold embossing is used throughout.

Padma Shri

  • Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian honour in the world. This award is given to those who have made significant contributions in any subject, including government service.
  • The award’s shape is created by superimposing a geometric pattern on a circle.
  • Above and below the lotus blossom in the centre, the words “Padma” and “Shri” are engraved. Stainless steel is used for all embossing, while bronze is used for the periphery.
