Answers & Solutions:

1) Answer (C)

Letter ‘Y’ is not present in the word ‘INITIATIVE’. Thus, ‘VANITY’ cannot be formed.
Hence, option C is the right answer.

2) Answer (C)

Only two words ROB and ORB can be formed using these letters.

3) Answer (B)

All fathers and brothers are definitely sons. Some fathers are brothers and some brothers are fathers. Therefore, these 3 must be represented as 2 intersecting circles inside a large circle.

Some mothers are sisters and some sisters are mothers. These must be represented by 2 intersecting circles. Only option B satisfies these conditions and hence, option B is the right answer.

4) Answer (A)

Let the total work be 42 units (LCM of 14 and 21)
Efficiency of A = 42/14 = 3 units/hour
Efficiency of B = 42/21 = 2 units/hour
A is assisted by B on every alternate hour
A can complete 3 units of work in first hour
A and B can complete 5 units of work in second hour.
Hence, 8 units of work will be completed in 2 hours.
Then, 40 units of work will be completed in 10 hours.
Remaining work = 2 units.
A can do 2 units of work in 2/3rd of an hour = $\dfrac{2}{3}\times60 = 40$ minutes
Therefore, Total work will be completed in 10 hours 40 minutes.

5) Answer (B)

Let the speed of boat upstream be ‘x’ km/hr
Speed of boat in still water = 2x km/hr
Speed of boat downstream = 3x km/hr
Then, Speed of current = 3x-2x = x km/hr
Given, Speed of current = 18 km/hr
x → 18 km/hr
Speed of boat in still water = 2x = 36 km/hr

6) Answer (B)

After decoding we have $310+31\times7-2100\div4$
=527-525
=2

7) Answer (C)

By checking the options for option 3 applying BODMAS rule we have
36$\times$3-48+2000$\div$40=108-48+50
=110

8) Answer (A)

$11+91\div13*8-5 = 11+7*8-5 = 11+56-5 = 62$

9) Answer (C)

Argument 1 is incorrect because we do not know whether the person wants to change their sleep cycle or not. (For e.g. staying awake to study/work etc.) Argument 2 is incorrect because it is not mentioned whether caffeine is a harmful substance or not. So, Option C is correct.

10) Answer (C)

We know that,
sum of the roots = -16/a = 4-2 = 2
a = -8
Product of the roots = c/a = 4*-2 = -8
c= -8 * a = -8 * -8 = 64

Hence, a+c = -8+64 = 56

11) Answer (C)

Let us start by filling the given information.

D has a car with Y colour. B is from S and owns L. A is from R and the colour of his car is Z.

The colour of car N is W. The friend with car M is from P. Therefore, N-W form a pair and M-P form a pair.
From the table, we can see that C must have car N and D must have car M.

C must be from Q, A must own O and B must own a car of colour X. Therefore, the final arrangement is as follows.

The person from Q has a car of colour W.

Hence, option C is the right answer.

12) Answer (B)

Let us start by filling the given information.

D has a car with Y colour. B is from S and owns L. A is from R and the colour of his car is Z.

The colour of car N is W. The friend with car M is from P. Therefore, N-W form a pair and M-P form a pair.
From the table, we can see that C must have car N and D must have car M.

C must be from Q, A must own O and B must own a car of colour X. Therefore, the final arrangement is as follows.

As we can see, A owns car O. Therefore, option B is the right answer.

13) Answer (A)

First let us assume that red ball is picked from both the bags and so
Probability of selecting red ball from bag ‘A’ is $4c1/7c1$
Probability of selecting red ball from bag ‘B’ is $3c1/5c1$
And so probability of selecting red ball from both the bags is (4/7)*(3/5)=12/35
Now let us assume that black ball is picked from both the bags and so
Probability of selecting black ball from bag ‘A’ is $3c1/7c1$
Probability of selecting black ball from bag ‘B’ is $2c1/5c1$
And so probability of selecting black ball from both the bags is(3/7)(2/5)=6/35
Therefore probability of selecting same colour ball =(12/35)+(6/35)
=18/35

14) Answer (A)

C is at the beginning. There are a total of 7 other letters. They can be arranged in 7! = 5040 ways.

15) Answer (A)

$4^2 – 6^2 + 11^2 = 101$
$7^2 – 9^2 + 12^2 = 112$
$ ?^2 = -8^2 + 5^2 + 139 = 100 = 10^2$
Hence, option A is the right choice.
