How to Prepare for IBPS PO 2016 – Tips & Tricks

IBPS PO is one of the most competitive banking exams in India. As many as 25 lakh candidates apply for the exam which is generally held in October each year. The preliminary exam is followed by a mains exam and an interview. Approximately 25,000 vacancies are expected this year for IBPS PO. Strategy for IBPS PO Preliminary exam: The preliminary exam comprises of 3 sections – English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability. There will be 100 questions in the exam and the time limit is just 60 minutes. So, time is of great essence. The best way to prepare for the prelims is to practice from lots of online mocks and to analyze the results. This way you can know your areas of strengths and weaknesses. There are sectional cutoffs in the exam but they are pretty low ie. 3 to 4 marks per section. So, work on your weak areas before the exam and consolidate on the strong areas during the exam. Tips for IBPS PO Mains exam: The mains exam in 2015 comprised of 5 sections – Reasoning, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness (with special emphasis on banking industry) and Computer Knowledge. Since the Mains exam carries 80% of the weightage of the final ranking, each section should be given equal importance. There is very little time after the prelims to prepare for the Mains exam (prelims are generally held in the first week of Oct and mains in the last week of October). Computer Knowledge and General Awareness are the only two sections that are additional over the prelims. Just practicing from mocks is not sufficient to succeed in the Mains. A full fledged study room and video series are a must to get a strong foundation.  Reading newspapers helps improve General Awareness and English proficiency.

Accuracy: Accuracy can be improved by taking lots of mocks. After every mock, the results have to be analyzed to understand what your areas of strength and weakness are. Weaknesses should be worked on before the exam. Strengths should be capitalized during the exam. There are sectional cutoff but they are very low.
