In the second step, the machine places the second least number behind the least number and the word that comes second in the alphabetical order behind the word that comes first.

This process is continued indefinitely till the machine arranges all the numbers and words in order.

Question 2:

A machine on giving the following input performs a series of operations on it and finally displays the output. Figure out the logic on which the machine operates.

Input: Eight ants fly high over the ocean waters
I: fly high the waters eight ants over ocean
II: fly high the waters ants eight over ocean
III: fly high the waters ants eight ocean over

Step III is the final output.

Solution:

In the first step, the machine moves the words starting with vowels to the right side and words starting with consonants to the left side.
The machine starts to arrange the groups according to the alphabetical order in the second step.

In the third step, the machine completes arranging the words (starting with consonants and vowels seperately) in alphabetical order. A point to note is that the machine completes the operations in 3 steps only for this particular case. The number of steps will vary depending on the input.

Solution:

This question is a simple one with many steps. The machine’s logic is easy to figure out. Owing to the massive size of the input, the number of steps is large.

In the first step, the machine places the highest non-perfect square number at the left extreme and the highest perfect square number at the extreme right.

In subsequent steps, the machine arranges the non-perfect squares in descending order starting from the left extreme and perfect squares from the right extreme.

A point to note is that if some numbers are already in order, the machine does not skip the step. Instead, it performs the step without making any changes. This point is crucial since if the question asks for the step number for a different input, the answers will vary.

Also, the words are left untouched until machine sorts out the numbers. After sorting the numbers, the machine arranges the words in ascending order one by one from left to right.

The machine performs 2 operations simultaneously on numbers but only one operation on words in each step. The question is simple by nature. So, if the question asks to find out the output for a smaller input, the steps will be a lot simpler.

Hence, aspirants must not use the size of a question as an indicator of its toughness while solving input output questions for IBPS PO. Rather, they must try to figure out the logic to arrive at an informed decision.
