RBI Assistant exam pattern:
The exam pattern is fairly similar to the IBPS and SBI exams. RBI conducts the exam in 3 phases – prelims, mains and language proficiency test.
The pattern of the prelims exam is same as that of other banking exams such as IBPS PO and SBI PO. There are 3 sections – English language, Reasoning ability and Numerical ability. The English language section contains 30 questions of one mark. The other 2 sections contain 35 questions of 1 mark each.
The mains exam consists of 5 sections – English language, Numerical ability, Reasoning ability, General awareness and Computer knowledge. The marking pattern is also similar to other exams. A correct answer fetches 1 mark whereas a wrong answer is penalised with 0.25 marks.

There are no sectional timings in the prelims exam. The duration of the prelims exam is 1 hour, and that of the mains exam is 2 hours.
It is mandatory for candidates to be proficient in the local language. RBI reserves the right to disqualify the candidates who are not proficient in the local language. Hence, aspirants must avoid applying at other zones.
Selection Procedure:
The selection procedure is similar to other exams. Prelims exam is just of qualifying nature. RBI shortlists aspirants who clear both the sectional and overall cut off in the prelims exam for the mains exam. The score in the prelims exam has no bearing on the final selection.
Again, aspirants must clear both the sectional and overall cut off in the mains exam. A merit list is prepared provisionally using the marks obtained in the mains exam and the language proficiency test. Finally, RBI offers jobs to aspirants having sufficiently high scores in the merit list.
Last year, 130 out of 200 proved to be a decent score. The number of vacancies was similar. A lot depends on the difficulty of the exam though. Irrespective of the level of difficulty, 140 will prove to be a very good score in the mains exam.
Since the number of vacancies is less, the cut off for the prelims exam is usually very high. Hence, aspirants must shoot to attempt 80+ questions. Also, accuracy is paramount.
A few questions can throw aspirants out of the race. Hence, aspirants must be very careful while selecting the questions to attempt.

RBI Assistant 2017 State wise Vacancy
Eligibility:
Aspirants must fall between the 20-28 years age bracket (General Category). Applicants must at least be a graduate. Also, applicants must have good proficiency in the regional language. The application fee is Rs. 450 for general and OBC candidates and Rs. 50 for other candidates.
Promotion prospects:
Assistants can become a grade-A officer through internal promotion. Then, they can become grade B officer. This process takes about 8 years. Reaching the higher echelons is tough. Aspirants selected through grade B exam usually bag the top posts. Hence, it is tougher for candidates selected as assistants to reach higher posts.
The job offers good work-life balance. Since RBI does not deal with the customers directly, the job is termed less hectic than PSB jobs. Also, the job entails various perks such as accommodation (subject to availability). RBI also provides reimbursements for various purposes.
RBI follows a 5 day work week and hence, Saturdays and Sundays are usually holidays. Mostly, the work is clerical in nature. Hence, this job provides the perfect work-life balance that one can aspire for. Also, RBI assistant is a pure government job unlike the jobs at PSBs.
