XAT 2016 Question paper Analysis:
The Verbal and Logical Ability Section was slightly on the tougher side as compared to the last year. There were 4 Reading Comprehensions from which the passage based on the axioms was difficult and hence should have been avoided. The critical reasoning and proverb questions were on the tough side, whereas the Para Jumbles were moderately difficult. The cut off for this section is expected to be in the range of 8-9.
The Decision Making section was of moderate level of difficulty. There were 23 questions of which 18 just involved decisions and didn’t involve any Mathematics. We had to read these 18 questions and select the appropriate option based on our understanding of the situation. These questions were moderately difficult and the options were very confusing. The other 5 questions were in 2 sets of 3 questions and 2 questions. The set on flat allotment (3 questions) was on the easier side while the other set on crops with 2 questions was on the tougher side. The cut-off for this section is expected to be in the range of 10-11.

The quantitative section was easier this year and most of the questions were fairly straightforward even though they were calculation intensive. The data interpretation section was also on easy-to-moderate side. Hence this year, the cut-off is expected to be slightly higher in this section as compared to last year. This year the cut off is expected to be 11-12.

The overall cut off is expected to be in the range of 33-35. There was a negative marking for each unattempted question after 13 unattempted questions. Since the negative marking for unattempted questions was 0.05, which is very small, it would not make much difference to the overall XAT score.
