Furthermore, the blank can also have an article in it. ‘A’, ‘an’ and ‘the’ are the only articles. So in general, the blanks which have an article in it are the easiest to answer. Similarly, if the word has to describe an action, then it must be filled by a verb. Following this approach, you can zero down on which option to select as your answer.
4) Check the tone of the passage
The tone of the passage is different for different passages. A passage’s tone is “descriptive” if the author is just stating facts without expressing his/her opinions. The tone is “critical” is the author is evaluating the merits and faults of something. The tone is “humorous” if the author is discussing something in a light-hearted manner.
Identify the tone of the passage first. Consequently, it will be easier for you to identify the option which fits in the blank and has the same tone as the passage.
5) Eliminate incorrect options
Firstly carefully read the sentence in which the blank is present. Then try out all the given options by placing them in the blank. Read the different sentences formed, one after the other. In this way, you can identify the words which do not fit in the sentence at all.
Eliminate these options in the first go. Consequently, compare the remaining options using topic, tone etc. of the passage. Finally, decide which option fits in the given blank perfectly.
