The syllabus of the exam is similar to what that was last year. However, there are some changes in the pattern of the main exam. The reasoning and the computer awareness sections have been clubbed together. The new pattern of the mains exam is as follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Each question carries a mark, and for every wrong answer, IBPS deducts 0.25 marks.<\/p>\n

IBPS Clerk mains reasoning syllabus:<\/h3>\n

Puzzles dominate this section. The puzzles bear at least 20-25 marks out of the total 35 marks. We can classify the puzzles that appear in the exam broadly into the following types.<\/p>\n

Einstein\u2019s puzzle:<\/h4>\n

In this type, the question gives us some details about some persons and their attributes. We have to figure out the remaining and match them correctly. This is the most common type of puzzle that appears in most of the competitive exams.<\/p>\n

Arrangement based puzzles:<\/h4>\n

Floor arrangement puzzles, linear seating arrangement puzzles and circular seating arrangement puzzles come under this category. Usually, the puzzles involve the inclusion of attributes too to make this complex. Also, aspirants must be very careful while solving these types of puzzles.<\/p>\n

Language coding puzzles:<\/h4>\n

Again, an important type of puzzle that appears every year. A few sentences are coded, and aspirants must find out the code for particular words.<\/p>\n

Input-Output questions:<\/h4>\n

The question displays step-by-step processes that a machine carries out on an input. Then, the question asks aspirants to find out the output for different inputs by cracking the logic.<\/p>\n

The following topics comprise the remaining 10 \u2013 15 marks.<\/p>\n

Syllogism:<\/h4>\n

IBPS has been shying away from these types of questions in the recent years. However, tough questions on reverse syllogism (where conclusions appear as questions and the statements that yield the conclusion appear as options) may appear from this topic.<\/p>\n

Blood relations:<\/h4>\n

Small puzzles comprising of 2-3 questions appear from blood relations. Aspirants must try to solve these questions using visual representation. Also, Coded blood relation questions appear from this topic.<\/p>\n

Ranking\/ Arrangement:<\/h4>\n

Similar to blood relations, a few questions appear from this topic too. Questions are mostly of individual type. Since these questions are less time consuming, aspirants must prefer to attempt these questions.<\/p>\n

Alphabetical series\/coding\/ Visual reasoning:<\/h4>\n

Alphabetical series and coding questions usually account for 2-3 marks. Visual reasoning questions have almost become extinct from banking examinations though they may reappear anytime. Hence, aspirants must prepare at least the basics of visual reasoning.<\/p>\n

IBPS Clerk 2017 mains quant syllabus – Quantitative ability:<\/h3>\n

Ratio and proportion is the most important topic in this section. As all the DI sets require a sound knowledge of ratios and proportions, aspirants must try to cover this topic in depth. Hence, aspirants must practice a lot of problems from this topic to get the topics ingrained in their mind.<\/p>\n

Usually, number series questions and approximation questions carry 10 marks in this section. However, in the recent years, the weightage of these topics are decreasing.<\/p>\n

2 DI sets, each comprising of 5 questions of 1 mark each appear in the exam. Miscellaneous questions on various topics contribute the remaining few marks (10-15 marks).<\/p>\n

Ratio and proportions (2-3 marks), Averages (0-1 mark), Alligation (0-1 mark), investments and partnerships (0-1 mark), Number systems (0-1 mark), Time and work, time speed distance (2-3 marks), Combinatorics (1-2 marks), Geometry \u2013 2D and mensuration (1-2 marks) are some of the important topics.<\/p>\n

IBPS Clerk 2017 mains English language syllabus:<\/h3>\n

Reading comprehension is the predominant topic in this section. Usually, 1 RC containing 10 questions appear in the prelims exam.<\/p>\n

Apart from reading comprehension, vocabulary and grammar based questions appear in the examination. Also, questions involving word usage and sentence replacement appear frequently.<\/p>\n

Cloze test (0-8 marks), double fillers (0-5 marks), Error spotting and sentence correction (5-10 marks), one-word substitution, phrasal verbs, synonyms and antonyms are some of the important topics.<\/p>\n

IBPS Clerk mains Computer awareness syllabus 2017:<\/h3>\n

Basic computer terminologies, the evolution of computers, functions of various components, network topologies, various number systems (binary, decimal, octal, hexadecimal) and conversion methods, recent inventions, logic gates and flow charts are some of the topics from which questions usually appear. Hence, having a decent grasp on the basics can reward aspirants handsomely.<\/p>\n

Since this section has now been clubbed with the reasoning section in the mains exam, aspirants must try to exploit the advantage to improve the scores.<\/p>\n

IBPS Clerk mains general awareness syllabus 2017:<\/h3>\n

We can broadly classify this section into 3 subcategories.<\/p>\n

1. General awareness
\n2. Financial\/Banking awareness
\n3. Static General Knowledge<\/p>\n

Most of the questions relate to the Banking industry in one way or another.
\nGeneral awareness questions form the major part of this section. Around 20-25 questions from current affairs appear in this topic. Hence, aspirants must prepare for this topic thoroughly.<\/p>\n

Revising the recent happenings of the past 6 months will be sufficient to answer the questions. Also, aspirants must give additional importance to any news relating to the economy, RBI, GOI and the banking industry.<\/p>\n

Questions regarding banking terminologies, various schedules and acts, and basic functioning of the banks come under financial awareness. Around 10-12 questions appear from financial awareness topics. Hence, aspirants must dedicate some time exclusively to prepare such topics.<\/p>\n

Static GK part comprises of who\u2019s who, sobriquets, superlatives and other such common questions. These topics, once prepared, can come in handy in many exams. Hence, aspirants must try to dedicate some time to prepare these topics too.<\/p>\n
