A truck travels 36 km North, then it turns West and travels 9 km, then it turns South and travels 50 km, then it turns to its left and travels 9 km. Where is it now with reference to its starting position?

Solution

Let the initial position of the truck be at point S. It travels 36 km towards north and reaches T, and then 9 km to the west and reaches point U,

Then, It travels south for 50 km and finally stops at point W after travelling 9 km.

Thus, SW = 50 - 36 = 14 km
